“My name is Ella. I’ve battled with severe anxiety since I was a young child, and I am still in the process of overcoming depression which I was diagnosed with last year. It’s been an extremely tough journey. Five years ago, I started modelling and at the same time I started being bullied by another girl, the bullying triggered crippling social anxiety. I spiralled into depression, lost my sense of self-worth and began to hide away, barely socialising, skipping classes and meals, only eating a chocolate bar and a grapefruit per day for months. I weighed so little, kept fainting and felt extremely weak and alone. On top of all this, my agency at the time were pushing me to lose even more weight.
After leaving school, I began to surround myself with people who didn't reflect the person I wanted to become, which therefore prolonged my recovery process. Last summer I hit rock bottom. I was suicidal and to put the feeling into words, felt like I was trapped in a dark cramped box for months.
For me, the battle with anxiety is still on going, but the most important thing that has helped me hugely on my journey to happiness, is surrounding myself with positive and supportive people who have taught me to love myself again. Through that self-love, I’ve learned to lead a healthier lifestyle through exercise and to look after my body more than ever. I feel stronger and healthier than ever, and I am so grateful to the few people who've helped me along the way.”0
